June 20 - Luke 11-12
“Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. 9 But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.” (Luke 12:8-9)
These words emphasize the importance of openly identifying with Jesus Christ and remaining faithful to Him regardless of circumstances. To confess Christ before men means more than merely acknowledging His existence. It involves publicly affirming faith in Him as Lord and Savior through both words and actions. True discipleship is not hidden or private; it is demonstrated in a believer’s daily life, testimony, and obedience. Jesus taught that His followers should not be ashamed of Him, even when facing ridicule, opposition, or persecution.
The promise attached to faithful confession is remarkable. Jesus says that those who confess Him on earth will be confessed by Him before the angels of God. This points to a future day when Christ will acknowledge His faithful followers in heaven. The believer’s relationship with Christ is not only significant in this life but also has eternal consequences.
Conversely, Jesus warns that those who deny Him before men will be denied before the angels of God. This refers to a deliberate rejection of Christ rather than a momentary failure. While believers may stumble, as Peter did when he denied Jesus, genuine repentance brings restoration. The warning is directed toward those who persistently reject or disown Christ.
These verses challenge Christians to examine their commitment to Christ. In a culture that often pressures believers to remain silent about their faith, Jesus calls His followers to courage and loyalty. The passage reminds us that earthly approval is temporary, but our standing before God is eternal. Therefore, believers should boldly confess Christ, trusting Him for strength and looking forward to His acknowledgment in glory.
